Learning Django

All this week I will be teaching classes on Django at 1pm Eastern (1800 UTC) in #ubuntu-classroom. It is a series of 4 classes, taking you from getting Django setup to a working application, learning about Views, Models, Forms and Templates. We started off getting a Django project setup and will continue tomorrow with creating our first models. At the end of this course series, we will have a working application that can be used to track other sessions being held in #ubuntu-classroom.

Announcing Ubuntu User Day

The Ubuntu User Days Team would like to announce the first Ubuntu User Day, on January 23, 2010. This will be a very informative one day session geared towards beginner and intermediate Ubuntu users, as well as people who are interested in using Ubuntu. We have 14 classes covering topics ranging from installing Ubuntu, finding help, equivalent programs, using IRC, getting involved in the Ubuntu Community and more. We have enlisted the help of many talented people to lead these classes throughout the day.

Karmic Release Party Orlando (1st of 2)

It’s almost about that time. Karmic Koala 9.10 will officially be released on October 29th and we will be gathering up the same night at Fiddler’s Green to celebrate. This will be a social event in honor of the the latest Ubuntu release. It would be great to have you all there. Orlando Python Users Group (OPUG) Meeting

OPUG is a user group for lovers, learners, and leaders in Python, one of the worlds best programming languages. We don’t have anything specific on the agenda but if anyone has any topics they want to bring up, we can cover those first and then chat and drink.

Orlando Meetup 9/26/09

An Orlando Meetup has been scheduled for, 9.26.09, from 2 – 6 pm at Stardust Video & Coffee http://tinyurl.com/lsn779 . The meetup is being held by Ubuntu Florida LoCo and everybody is invited to attend.

The meetup will mostly serve as a face-to-face meeting to talk in detail about upcoming events, e.g Florida Linux Show Orlando, future plans, ideas, projects, etc.

Florida Team Packaging Jam August 8, 2009

The Ubuntu Florida LoCo team will be having a Packaging Jam on Augst 8th, 2009 at Cup O Soul http://tinyurl.com/ktlxrd in Winter Park between 2 – 6 pm. The Packaging Jam will be held in the back room within Cup O Soul. The back room has a table, chairs, projector and dvd player. Cup O Soul offers coffee, tea, beer, wine, snacks, food and more.

This will be the 1st Packaging Jam for the Florida LoCo Team. The Packaging Jam will consist of a packaging 101 by Cary Haynie and packaging in general by everybody involved. This event will serve as a stepping stone for people in general and/or from the Florida LoCo to get further involved in packaging applications for Ubuntu and in general.
