Multi Media

Ubuntu Media Applications(DRM FREE)

Ubuntu OS provides several applications for you to freely enjoy your media. Since Ubuntu does not allow DRM(Digital Rights Management) you can pretty much listen to or watch anything you like without big brother watching over your shoulders. Ubuntu unlike other OS have freely available media applications from music, video players to software for image, sound and video editing. With Ubuntu there is no limit to how much you can unleash your creativity, this very site is proof of what these freely available applications can do.

Video Editing

Although Ubuntu does not shine in this area in particular it does have some great applications for everyday home/personal and to some extend for professional use.

PiTiVi Video Edititor

Taking into account the fact that not everybody has the same knowledge of video editing, nor the same needs, PiTIVi provides several ways of creating and modifying a timeline. Ranging from a simple synopsis view (a-la iMovie) to the full-blown editing view (aka Complex View) which puts you in complete control of your editing.

Other interfaces can be added via the plugin system, aimed at more specific uses like a SlideShow creator or a subtitling editor. It is even possible to use pitivi without a user interface in order to do batch rendering. Visit the website http://www.pitivi.org/wiki/Main_Page

  • No limit on audio/video format input/output sizes, resolutions and formats
  • No limits on number of tracks used
  • No limits on number of combined effects
  • Create your own effect combination and re-use it in other projects
  • Create your script to quickly re-use a sequence of sources/effects in other projects
  • Use external programs to process some sequences using the gst-python/pitivi plugin system

There are plenty more video editing software available in the Ubuntu software channel to choose from.
